Chapter 8 - Pilgrimage to Demachi Masugata Shotengai

One of my favorite more recent anime movies is Tamako Love Story, which also has a prequel anime series called Tamako Market.  Both the movie and anime revolve around characters that live in or around the Usagiyama Shotengai which is modeled from the Demachi Masugata Shotengai in Kyoto.
Since we knew we would be going to Kyoto, we decided we definitely had to stop here.  There were a few other interesting places between our hotel and the shopping arcade so we decided to walk there.
Along the way we stopped at the Takashimaya department store which is more like a shopping mall sorta where there's the Pokémon Center Kyoto.  We knew for the most part majority of the merchandise would be the same as the other two Pokémon Centers but being that it's Kyoto, they would have some nice limited traditional Japanese looking pokemon stuff, which they did.

Definitely NOT 1 hour and 33 minutes.....

Also along the way was a massive park where the Kyoto Imperial Palace is.  It didn't look that big on google maps when I was planning out the route but it was too big.  We simply skipped any chance of looking at the Imperial Palace because it was too far to check as the Omiya and Sento Imperial Palace were already closed off to the public.  And it was kinda hot too, we just wanted to get food at the shotengai already..

Finally after walking about 5 miles we arrived at the shotengai.  We had seen photos from other peoples pilgrimages but it's pretty cool getting to be there in person.  The shopping arcade was rather quiet and actually not too many interesting shops, we stopped at one clothing store and bought some Tamako Market T-Shirts and headed out to the stepping stones.

You can find the stepping stones where the Kamo and Takano Rivers meet.  It was beautiful and more lively than the shopping arcade.  Looked like a great place to unwind or bring your family.  I wish there were places like this in Hawaii!

Definitely didn't want to walk back so we caught the subway and then a train back to the Kyoto Station.  Took a few more pictures as well.
